 Fall has always been my favorite time of year!  Growing up in Michigan we would go to a place called

Bayne’s Apple Farm

and get the best caramel apples, cinnamon-sugar doughnuts, and warm apple cider.  We also would drive up to

Northern Michigan

and go to all of the apples farms and apple festivals that they have up there.  It’s my favorite part of the

 Fall

because the apples taste crunchy and amazing, the pumpkins are out, the leaves are changing, and I finally would get to wear boots and sweaters! I always get homesick once October comes along so I thought I would attempt to bring a little bit of that Fall feel to sunny

Southern California

.  There is no better way to do that than with

I like to use

homemade caramel

 to dip my apples in and if you are up for it you can try out

my recipe

that is made without corn syrup!  It’s much easier than it sounds

but

you will need a candy thermometer. I have been seeing caramel apples dipped in popcorn and I just HAD to try it out for myself.  I like to make my

popcorn on the stovetop

because I can control how much butter and salt goes on it (

here’s how I make it

).  Feel free to dip the caramel in anything you like!! I like peanuts,

popcorn

, and mini chocolate chips! This is such a beautiful treat that makes me think of my favorite time of year in the beautiful Mid West!

Ingredients

4-6 apples; or however many you are wanting to make

1 cup

homemade caramel

or store bought caramels; this will depend on how many apples you are going to dip

whatever toppings you like; chopped peanuts, mini chocolate chips,

popcorn

wax paper

How To

*Prepare 6-8 small apples by washing and drying them well

*Let the apples sit out until the are room temperature

*Melt the caramel over a double boiler; do this by placing a bowl over a pot of simmering water making sure that the water is not touching the bowl itself

*Remove the stems of the apples and insert a stick of your choice; this time I used a kabob skewer but you can also use lollipop sticks too

*Once the caramel is melted simply dip the apples by spinning them around in the caramel

*I like to use a spatula to remove any excess caramel from the bottom of the apple

*Coat the caramel dipped apple in the toppings you choose and then place on the wax paper to set up

*Enjoy!!!
