Most things are simply better when they are homemade.  I never really put spice blends into that category until recently.  The pumpkin pie spice blend that I bought pre-made had hit it’s expiration and I really wanted to use it for all of the fall baking I have been doing so I decided to make my own.  It is incredible how much better it is!! I should have known this since I make my own taco seasoning blend.  The fresh spices make all of the difference in the world and this way you can customize it how you like.  More or less of anything is totally fine.  You don’t always find allspice in Pumpkin Pie Spice, but I love it so in it went.

Pumpkin Pie Spice has it’s name simply because those are the spices found in the classic recipe for pumpkin pie, but I will tell you that it can be added to anything! I have been adding it to everything lately from cookies to coffee to pancakes I’m completely obsessed.  Since fall is right around the corner it’s time to invest in some good spices and dried herbs for the cooler months and here is where you can start.
