DIY Beach Boards

DIY Beach Boards

As you have seen in some of my recent posts, I had a blast putting together a “Beach Baby Shower” for two of my friends who are due this summer. I love to make use of items that I have around the house like this wood pallet. I have used this pallet for a number of crafts (like these), so I knew I could use some paint to make a rustic DIY Beach Board for the party. Basically if you have paint and some wood, you can do just about anything!

I also found this wood arrow sign at Michael’s Arts and Crafts that reminded me of all the rustic signs out there pointing the way to the beach. Generally, they can cost a lot of money, but with a little paint I figured I could do it myself. Now you can get some stencils if you aren’t confident with pairing the letters, but I wanted mine to look like someone actually painted the sign themselves.

The trick to making these look rustic and worn is to paint the boards unevenly, allowing the brushstrokes to stay intact. After painting on the words, use sand paper to sand away some of the paint to create the weathered look. Then you are done!! Make sure to allow the paint to dry completely between coats, and before sanding.

The best part about having these wood items around is that you can use them again for future projects by simply painting over them.
